Alex HouseAlex House was destined to be a comedian. She was born and raised on Long Island-fertile soil for comedians the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Rosie O’Donnell and Lenny Bruce. In addition, growing up without a TV forced her and her brother to entertain themselves by mimicking skits from Johnny Carson, The Carol Burnett Show, and Saturday Night Live they had seen while sleeping over at friends’ houses.

By age 16 Alex had mastered the fife, french horn, and being funny. She almost got kicked out of her 7th Halloween dance for coming dressed as “Buckwheat” from the SNL skits with Eddie Murphy who was her comedic influence at the time. “It never even crossed my mind that I was being “politically incorrect”. They didn’t even have that term back then. I just loved Eddie Murphy so much that I wanted to be him.”

She attended Kutztown University where she pursued a degree in Art Education although most people thought she was a theater major due to her numerous performances both on and off the stage. While working as a Resident Assistant and Orientation Staff member, she was dared to try her hand at stand-up at a college coffee house. She’s been hooked ever since!

“She’s too pretty to be funny” -typical male audience member

Alex House is one of the most respected female comedians in this male-dominated industry. For three years in a row she has been nominated by Campus Activities Magazine as the best comedian among colleges and universities, for two years she was a winner of the Ladies of Laughter Comedy Contest and continues to be the only female performer featured in the “Nobodies of Comedy Tour” produced by the same producers of “Whose Line Is It Anyway” Tour. Alex has appeared on the first season of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” as well as ABC’s “The View” in addition to performing at over 200 colleges and universities.

Alex’s current project is working on a book that examines the Long Island Comedy Scene and the amount of comedians that continue to “spawn” from this 118 mile long stretch of land that she grew up on. Check out her MySpace!
